Cozy and Chic: My Favorite Sweaters for Fall/Winter 2024

I am a sucker for cold weather. Last year, I had the pleasure of living in Utah and got to layer for more than six months out of the year. It was lovely. In my opinion, you can never have enough sweaters. They are so versatile. Ranging from cozy at-home jumpers, to classy workwear, there is a sweater for every occasion. Not to mention, they often work as a perfect layering piece.

In writing this article, I tried to keep an open mind in terms of price and timelessness. I try to find pieces that will last a few years, if not much longer. I prefer quality over quantity. My thought process for purchasing a sweater consists of weighing out options. Is it machine washable? Will it still be in style next year? What kind of fabric is it made of? How many ways can I dress it up or down?

Let’s jump into the finds.

My Favorite Sweaters of the Year (so far)

Free people

Sunbeam Sweater

Starting off simple with this turtleneck by Free People. This sweater is a fabulous mix of cozy and chic. It is suitable for everyday wear, and can easily be dressed up or down. I love a black sweater. You can style this in so many ways! It pairs well dressed down with leggings, with fancied up with a skirt, or layered for the girlies in chillier climates.

I always make sure to follow the washing instructions with Free People items. Some of their pieces become distressed when washed improperly, so I try to be extra careful with their items. I ruined one of their cashmere sweaters once, and still haven’t forgiven myself.

Anine bing

Sydney Crewneck Sweater

Anine Bing has quickly become one of my favorite luxury brands. Creating simple, yet high quality pieces that stand the test of time. Plus, the brand does share the AB initials, which may make me a little biased. The Sydney Sweater comes in a variety of colors, but I love this pattern in particular. It feels very holiday season to me and almost has a 90’s look to it. It is so chic.

This brand always produces high quality items. Many are very sturdy too, which I love since I am always on the move and don’t want my stuff to be falling apart. I got my first sweatshirt from this brand during college on sale. Their pieces are on the pricier side, but the quality is there. It is the perfect sweater for cold weather, and will likely last you a lifetime. If you’re someone who prioritizes high-quality closet staples, I highly recommend checking out the brand if you haven’t already.

Aqua

Turtleneck Cashmere Sweater

Who doesn’t love Cashmere? AQUA provides quality cashmere at a reasonable price point. This turtleneck is simple, and can be dressed up or down. It is work-appropriate and also makes a lovely sweater for the holidays. It comes in a variety of shades and works perfectly as a closet staple.

AQUA’s cashmere is made of yarn sourced from hand-brushed Mongolian goats. I am not too sure on the process there, but I like the spin it provides the brand, considering I spent 5 minutes thinking about what lives these goats must have. The brand is a Bloomingdale’s exclusive.

Vince camuto

Crewneck Cardigan Sweater

This cardigan by Vince Camuto is so chic. Granted, it is more suitable for those in more moderate climates, if you’re planning to wear it during the winter. There are so many ways this could be styled and layered, I’m obsessed. The brand is very creative and reasonably priced. This piece is a lot more casual than most of the Vince Camuto pieces I go for.

I found this brand while trying to establish a wardrobe for working in the office. It was my first “big girl” job, an internship for a mortgage company. I admire the brands ability to draw in a wide demographic. The price points make it perfect for young adults to more mature women. This piece works as a fun, but not too flashy, statement piece.

Aqua

Drop Shoulder Crewneck Sweater

Another cashmere sweater by Aqua. I have started to fall in love with this brand, if you can’t tell. This piece is super simple, yet can be worn in so many ways. It is work appropriate, could be worn with jeans, and could also be dressed up! It comes in a two different colors, but this green may be my favorite. It works as a perfect piece for the holidays.

The mock neck works perfectly for those who are looking for something less extreme than a full blown turtleneck. The other color, Wheat, is a soft beige and is also gorgeous. It looks great with a collared shirt underneath, and also works well under a coat since isn’t too heavy. There is so much you could do with this, imagine it with some layered necklaces. It is a great staple piece. Did I mention it was cashmere?

Aqua

Embroidered Pointelle Cashmere Cardigan

I love this original piece by Aqua. Cardigans are always in style, and this cashmere one would be a great stand out piece to add to your collection. There is so much detail here – the puffed sleeves, hand-embroidered flower detailing, and ribbed trim. I love how unique this piece is, along with it’s ability to be worn year round due to the lightweight fabric.

I love a statement piece. Funky sweaters get a bad rep. The ugly Christmas sweaters have made it hard for the creative sweaters to thrive. Whenever I find a good one, I am all over it. A lot of people are afraid to branch out with sweaters, but this one is fitted enough to appeal to a much larger crowd.

Vince camuto

Center Seam Crewneck Sweater

Back to a more simple piece. Vince Camuto always brings the high-quality, simple pieces to the table. We all need a basic sweater. This could be dressed up or down, layered, or worn to work. I always enjoy the pieces I get from this brand, and love that they keep a reasonable price point as they continue to grow.

This piece is definitely something you would want to pair with a statement piece, or get creative with layers. You could also add some jewlery to elevate the look. It also would look great with a casual fit. However you choose to style it, it will be versatile and stand the test of time. If you take good care of it, it should last you a while and remain stylish.
